Your Adrenals May Be the Missing Piece in Your Healing

If you have been eating well, supporting your lymph, and even getting your kidneys to filter, but still feel exhausted or wired, the adrenals may be the missing piece.

In Dr. Robert Morse's regenerative framework, the adrenal glands are one of the most overlooked parts of the healing picture.

What the Adrenals Actually Do

The adrenal glands sit on top of the kidneys and regulate a wide range of functions:

  • Stress response
  • Blood sugar balance
  • Sodium and potassium regulation
  • Anti-inflammatory chemistry
  • Sex hormone precursors as we age

Most people know the adrenals through cortisol and adrenaline. What matters just as much is how modern life keeps that system chronically activated.

The Adrenal-Kidney Connection

Morse considers adrenal and kidney health inseparable.

When the adrenals are depleted, kidney filtration often suffers. That is why people can have poor energy, salt cravings, and chronic stress symptoms at the same time.

When I assess a new client and see chronically clear urine plus fatigue, adrenal exhaustion is usually part of the picture.

Signs Your Adrenals Are Struggling

Adrenal depletion does not always look dramatic. It often hides in plain sight:

  • Persistent fatigue that sleep does not fully resolve
  • Feeling wired at night but sluggish in the morning
  • Cravings for salt
  • Low blood pressure or lightheadedness when standing
  • Difficulty handling stress
  • Slow recovery from illness, exercise, or emotional strain
  • Hormonal imbalance, irregular cycles, low libido, or worsening PMS

Many people think they have a thyroid issue or a generic energy problem when the adrenals are actually involved.

What Depletes the Adrenals

Several things can wear the glands down over time:

  • Coffee and other stimulants
  • Blood sugar instability
  • Skipped meals or highly erratic eating patterns
  • Chronic emotional stress
  • Acid-forming diets that keep inflammation high

Every blood sugar crash is an adrenal event. Every stimulant is borrowed energy.

How to Begin Supporting the Adrenals

Recovery is slow, but the direction of change can shift fairly quickly when the body gets what it needs.

  • Reduce or eliminate stimulants
  • Stabilise blood sugar with regular fruit intake
  • Prioritise rest and sleep
  • Reduce acid load with more fruit and vegetables

Doing less is often exactly what the adrenals need.

Herbs for Adrenal Recovery

Botanical support can be helpful here because the adrenals respond well to gradual nourishment.

  • Ashwagandha is the cornerstone in Morse's herbal practice
  • Licorice root can help support cortisol reserve, especially with low blood pressure
  • Eleuthero can support stamina without overstimulation
  • Nettle leaf provides minerals such as potassium and magnesium
  • Cleavers and other lymphatic herbs can still matter when congestion is part of the pattern

Start slowly, especially with ashwagandha, and let the system adapt.

The Long Game

Adrenal recovery rewards patience more than almost any other healing process. These glands may take months, not weeks, to rebuild.

The signs that things are changing usually look like this:

  • More stable energy
  • Better sleep
  • Less dependence on caffeine
  • Improved kidney filtration

This series has now covered the three pillars that underpin most of what I work on with clients: lymphatic detoxification, kidney filtration, and adrenal recovery.

If you recognise yourself in this post, book a consultation and we can look at what your adrenals, and the rest of your system, actually need.
